TheatreWorkers Project provided three trainings for artists and arts administrators who were interested in working in the reentry and prison arts fields. These trainings grew out of TWP’s commitment to supporting artists of color, increasing the diversity of artists working in this rewarding and vital space, and training artists to become potential members of TWP’s teaching staff. These trainings built community, increased awareness of the importance of cultural competency, equity and inclusion, shared skills, established new contacts, and recruited new TWP teaching artists.
TheatreWorkers Project designed and delivered a 2-day training for emerging and established artists and arts administrators interested in working in reentry and in-prison settings on January 11 & 12, 2020 in partnership with the Lincoln Heights Youth Arts Center in Los Angeles. Due to enthusiastic responses by participants, TWP hosted an additional 4-hour training on Zoom on May 9, 2020. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, this training was held via Zoom. After the murder of George Floyd and in response to the resulting national conversation, TWP hosted a 2-hour Cultural Competency, Equity, and Inclusion training facilitated by Dr. Reggie Daniels of University of San Francisco.
